What is ERB in Tanzania.?

ERB ==> Engineers Registration Board (ERB) is a body that was established by the government under the act of parliament No. 15 of 1997. The board has the responsibility and mandate of regulating Engineering activities, conduct of engineers and consulting firms in Tanzania.

Vision and Mission of ERB

==> The mission of the board is to regulate engineering practice, promote engineering amongst local engineers and engineering consulting firms by enhancing competitiveness and promoting professionalism

==> The vision of the board is to achieve professionalism to practicing engineers and consulting firms and ensuring a sustainable growth in the engineering capacity in Tanzania

Roles and responsibilities of ERB in Tanzania;

• The Board (ERB) is mandated with monitoring and regulating the engineering practice in Tanzania through registration of engineers, engineering technicians and consulting firms. The Act allows only registered engineers to engage in professional engineering work and/or services.

• The Board has also been given statutory mandate to withdraw the right to practice from registered engineers if found guilty of professional misconduct or professional incompetence.

ERB graduate registration requirements;

To qualify for registration (ERB) in the categories of professional and technician engineers one has to acquire adequate professional competence and experience in areas specified by the Board.

What is the SEAP program in Tanzania.?

Structured Engineers Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) is the program offered by Engineers Registration Board (ERB) so as to produce Professional Engineers (PE) from qualified Graduate Engineers (GE).

Purpose of SEAP

SEAP offers Graduate Engineers a comprehensive three-year training program aligned with ERB's requirements and guidelines. Upon fulfilling the program's criteria, participants will attain accreditation as Professional Engineers by the ERB. This structured approach equips graduate engineers with the necessary skills and confidence to excel in the job market.

Training Scheme for Civil Engineers

The ERB SEAP Training Scheme for Civil Engineers encompasses various domains:

Design Office

• Project planning and appraisal including environmental impact assessment.
• Tracing and checking of designs and drawings.
• Knowledge and ability to judge on application of various design standard codes of practices.
• Development of design data assumptions, calculation, specifications and drawings, including application of aided design (CAD)
• Estimation of quantities and costs
• Preparation of contract documents
• Damage research, including trouble shooting, damage/failure analysis and design of solutions to the damages/ failures.

Construction Site

• Setting out and surveying
• Processing supply, scheduling utilization and recording of Materials, Labour and Plant 
• Weighting and Batching. 
• Preparation and implementation of Work Schedules (programs)
• Production of Building/Civil works components.
• Quality control by field/Laboratory testing of materials and building/civil works component
• Measuring up works, costing and preparation of account 
• Use of explosives and Quarry operations.
• Staff and labour relations

Maintenance

• Infrastructure condition evaluation by visual inspection and equipment.
• Design/planning of resultant maintenance interventions.
• Development of work quantities and specifications
• Processing supply, scheduling utilization and recording of materials, labour and plant
• Preparation and implementations of work programs
• Measurement and costing of the work
• Quality Control
• Staff and labor relations

General Management

• General office routines/administration
• Organization structures and their translation in practice
• Communication skills
• Staff regulations and labor laws
• Materials/equipment’s procurement, management, storage and handling
• Safety practices at site
• Production planning and control resources (Labour, equipment, materials, fund)
• Tendering procedures including tender preparation and tender evaluation
• Knowledge of various types of contracts and the applicable conditions of contract
• Contractor administration
• Quality management

ERB Professional Registration Requirements

Completion of the ERB SEAP Report is a crucial aspect of the accreditation process and not otherwise. 

By adhering to the ERB SEAP program and diligently preparing the requisite reports, Graduate Engineers can embark on a journey towards professional excellence and recognition within the engineering industry in Tanzania.

Submission of ERB SEAP Report

This report can be submitted either as a comprehensive document covering the entire three-year training period or as quarterly reports, each detailing the activities and progress made during the respective period. These reports, signed and commented on by the supervisor, provide insights into the participant's development and accomplishments throughout the program.
